This portrait invites men to experience the alienation many women may feel within male-dominated religions, worshipping an omnipotent male God with whom they cannot fully identify. The contrast between the aged, wrinkled hands and the youthful face reflects the tension between traditional religious doctrine and contemporary perspectives. While Catholicism often venerates Mary, the simultaneous glorification of motherhood and virginity presents an impossible ideal - celebrating women through roles and virtues that cannot be universally attained or reconciled. By placing a halo above a visibly uncomfortable boy, I challenge the use of religious glorification to reinforce patriarchal ideals and shape cultural expectations of women.

This painting explores the exhausting labour of adapting oneself to external expectations that can never be fully met. Through the futile act of repairing fishnet tights, it reflects the endless cycle of adaptation, maintenance, and self-correction demanded by ideals that remain perpetually out of reach.
