Ever Listening explores listening as an act of care, attention and responsibility, particularly towards those whose voices have been neglected or gone unheard.

Drawing on the rabbit’s folkloric associations with the underworld, witchcraft and the outcast, the work considers a creature that is largely silent yet intensely receptive to its surroundings. Its listening is physical: ears turn, search and respond to what cannot always be seen. Here, the rabbit becomes a quiet presence, attentive to what might otherwise pass unheard.

The sea takes on a similarly liminal presence. Boundless and unfathomable, it becomes almost a realm of the dead - a space of loss, absence and lives beyond reach. Against this expanse, the listening rabbit occupies a threshold between the living and the absent.

Emerging partly from personal experiences of loss and institutional neglect, and influenced by INQUEST’s emphasis on listening to bereaved families, Ever Listening considers the consequences of not being heard. It asks what it means to listen - to remain receptive to voices that have been overlooked, dismissed or left unheard.
